Well here we are, just a couple of weeks after our Longhorn Lodge arrived on the land, two stories and hours of fellowship richer. Three train cars arrived with all of the materials, and our first crew of older staff brothers arrived from our other churches such as Berkeley, Davis, San Diego, Riverside, and Minnesota. They came just in the nick of time as we had to move 200 walls out of the containers, which averaged 400 pounds, with some reaching even 1,000 pounds. Many brothers flew out in shifts of 3-4 days, sacrificing their time and enduring the pain of many hammered thumbs in order to raise the walls and build the lodge up through the second floor. It was by no means an easy task, as we faced an army of spiders, the scorching Texas sun, and hands riddled by splinters after a hard day’s work moving our lumber.

This past Friday was our annual end-of-year Bible study, combined with Graduation Friday. The night began with a video recap of all the events that happened this past year. Then some of the deacons, who flew out from our Berkeley church to help out with Longhorn Lodge, encouraged us seniors, to just continue to hold on, no matter how many obstacles come their way. As a treat, John Lin, who was with the seniors since freshmen year, came out and gave a charge to our class. He told us that it was more important now than ever, to really cling onto God’s words as we all face this new season of our lives.

This past Sunday was a memorable one. After nine brothers and sisters shared their testimonies and were baptized on Easter just one month ago, we held another baptism service where seven of our members got baptized! We were also joined by several members from other church plants as they flew out to Austin to help with the building of Longhorn Lodge.

Corpus Christi – ‘The Body of Christ.’ The perfect place to become that body of Christ! This weekend, the freshmen and sophomores went on a day long trip to Corpus Christi. We started the day off on a high note by going to Golden Kitchen’s All-You-Can-Eat Sushi Buffet and eating to our heart’s content. Several students didn’t want to leave the restaurant and continued to eat while the rest of us were ready to go to the beach.

This past Sunday marked a very significant moment in the history of our church. The long awaited day of Pastor Jonathan and Susanna’s arrival was finally at hand, and it was quite a joyous day. After another installment in the Portraits of Faith message series about David’s great step of faith, we were able to celebrate and welcome Pastor Jonathan and Susanna in the usual Texas fashion.

Last weekend, we had our first ever Freshman Retreat! After dinner and games at Sanchez, we packed up and left to the retreat site where we kicked off the weekend by watching a G-live skit called “What Are You Waiting For?”. That showed us the different reasons why people might be waiting until they decide to follow God. Afterwards, we had a fun time eating some quick but yummy snacks we put together using sausages and bread rolls!

Our Easter weekend began with the Good Friday service. We reflected over scenes from The Passion of the Christ and 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 thinking about how God’s plan of salvation conflicted with different worldviews.
